The 429 error on Google Translate's free endpoint occurs for two main reasons:

  1. Node/Proxy IP flagged: If you are using a VPN/proxy (required in mainland China), your exit IP is likely flagged by Google as "abnormal traffic." Switch to a cleaner VPN node.
  2. Request frequency too high: Too many requests in a short time triggers the rate limit. Lower the request rate (see steps below).

Solutions (in order of effectiveness):

  1. Switch to a cleaner VPN/proxy node — this is the most common fix when the 429 comes from google.com/sorry/index (Google's anti-bot page).

  2. Reduce request frequency — go to Menu -> Tools/Options -> Advanced Options -> Subtitle Translation, and:

    • Set Batch size (lines) for AI translation / Traditional translation channels batch size to a low value (e.g., 1–5).
    • Increase Pause (s) after each translation request (e.g., 5–10 seconds).

  3. Switch translation channel (recommended) — Google's free endpoint is unstable and IP-sensitive. Use DeepSeek instead (better quality, very low cost):

    • Register/charge at https://platform.deepseek.com/ (can charge as little as 1 RMB), get an API key.
    • Fill it into Menu -> Translation Settings -> DeepSeek.
    • Select DeepSeek in the translation channel dropdown.
    • Alternatively, use the built-in local M2M100 translation (downloads a model on first use to 软件目录/models/m2m100_12b).
  4. Note on v4.13 behavior: From v4.13 onward, before translating, the software first checks Google's return status code — if 200 it translates normally, if 429 it retries via the third-party googletrans library, and for any other status code it falls back to Microsoft Translate. If you are still on v4.12 (as shown in your log), upgrading may help.

Also note: your source language is Greek and target is English. This is a mainstream pair, so traditional channels are fine in principle — the failure here is purely rate-limiting/IP-flagging, not a language-code issue.
