The 429 Too Many Requests error from Google Translate (Free) has two common root causes: (1) your VPN/proxy exit IP is flagged as "unclean" by Google, or (2) you are sending requests too frequently, triggering Google's rate-limiting anti-bot page (google.com/sorry/index).

Solution (in order of preference):

  1. Switch to a different / cleaner VPN node. The /sorry/index URL means Google's anti-abuse system has flagged your current IP as suspicious traffic. Change to a different exit node and retry.

  2. Reduce request frequency. Go to Menu -> Tools/Options -> Advanced Options -> 字幕翻译调整 (Translation):

    • Set 传统翻译渠道每批字幕行数 (Batch size for traditional translation) to a small value, e.g. 1.
    • Set 翻译后暂停秒 (Pause after each translation request) to a value like 5 or higher.

  3. Switch translation channel (recommended). Google Free is unreliable and often rate-limited. Better alternatives:

    • DeepSeek — much better quality and very low cost. Register at https://platform.deepseek.com/, top up (even 1 CNY), get an API key, fill it in Menu -> 翻译设置 -> DeepSeek, then select DeepSeek as the translation channel. Note: uncheck the Thinking checkbox in its settings panel to avoid truncation.
    • M2M100 (Built-in) — fully offline local translation, no rate limits. First use will auto-download the model to 软件目录/models/m2m100_12b.
    • Microsoft Translate (Free) — no special network needed, though it may also be rate-limited under heavy use.
  4. Translation cache note: If you re-run the same file, results may come from cache. To force a fresh translation, either delete the tmp/translate_cache/ directory or check 清理已生成 on the main interface.

Note: Google Translate also requires a working VPN in mainland China. If you already have a proxy configured in the alignment row of the main interface, make sure the address/port is valid (e.g. http://127.0.0.1:10808), since an invalid proxy will cause all network requests to fail.
