The 403 error WSServerHandshakeError: 403 is returned by Microsoft's Edge-TTS free online API, which means your current public IP (usually through a VPN/proxy node) has been temporarily blocked or rate-limited by Microsoft's firewall due to high-frequency/high-concurrency requests or a flagged IP.

Solutions (in order)

  1. Reduce request frequency — Open Menu → Tools/Options → Advanced Options → Dubbing Adjust:

    • Set EdgeTTS concurrent dubbing threads (并发配音线程数) to 1
    • Set Pause (s) after each dubbing request (配音后暂停秒) to 5–10
This gentle, low-frequency calling pattern is the most direct fix for the 403 ban.
  2. If you are using a proxy/VPN — bypass it
Edge-TTS may connect through your flagged proxy IP. In the software root directory (where sp.exe is located), create an empty file named:

    edgetts-noproxy.txt

This forces Edge-TTS to bypass the proxy. Then restart the software and retry.

  3. If bypassing the proxy still fails — clear the proxy field in the main interface's Alignment row (network proxy textbox), and if your VPN node IP is dirty, switch to a cleaner node.
  4. Wait and retry — The ban is usually temporary (a few minutes to a few hours). If it persists, switch to another TTS channel such as gTTS(免费) (note: gTTS requires VPN access in mainland China).
  5. Fallback option — For English dubbing, you may also use a paid/local channel such as Qwen3-TTS(内置), ChatterBox(内置), or a cloud API (Doubao 2.0 / OpenAI-TTS).
