This error is caused by an incomplete or corrupted faster-whisper model download. The model.bin file inside C:/pyTrans/models/models--Systran--faster-whisper-medium is missing, invalid, or was only partially downloaded, so the CTranslate2 engine cannot open it.

Solution:

  1. Delete the incomplete model folder
Close pyVideoTrans, then delete the entire directory:
    C:/pyTrans/models/models--Systran--faster-whisper-medium
  2. Let the software re-download the model automatically
Start pyVideoTrans and run the task again. The software will download the model from scratch.
Make sure you have a stable network connection. Since huggingface.co is blocked in mainland China, the software normally auto-switches to the hf-mirror.com mirror, but if your proxy/VPN is unstable, large downloads may still fail.
  3. Or download the model manually
Go to https://huggingface.co/Systran/faster-whisper-medium/tree/main, download all files (including model.bin and config.json), and place them directly into:
    C:/pyTrans/models/models--Systran--faster-whisper-medium

    • Ensure the file names are exactly as on the website (do not let the browser rename model.bin to model(2).bin).
    • If the folder does not exist, create it.
  4. If auto-download keeps failing, try:

    • Enable a reliable proxy/VPN before running the task, or
    • Create an empty file netoffline.txt in the software root directory only if you already have a complete local model (otherwise it will just error again).
  5. Alternative: switch to a smaller/faster model such as large-v3-turbo (default recommended) to reduce download size and speed up the process.
