The cause is that the DeepL channel's api_url (server_url) is configured incorrectly, or it does not match the key type. The deepl library reports 404 Not found only when the request URL path is wrong; it is not a translation failure or a language-code problem.

Handling steps:

  1. Open Menu → Translation Settings → DeepL and check the API URL field:

    • Free key (ending in :fx): fill in https://api-free.deepl.com
    • Pro paid key: fill in https://api.deepl.com
    • If unsure, clear the field and let the program determine it automatically based on the key suffix; also make sure there is no /v2/translate or trailing slash.
  2. Re-enter the Secret Key, confirm there are no leading or trailing spaces, and confirm that the account has activated the DeepL API service (a web subscription does not equal an API key; you must apply separately on the DeepL API page).
  3. If the corporate intranet or proxy intercepts requests, clear the proxy box on the main interface or enter the correct http://127.0.0.1:port, then test again.
  4. If you still cannot access DeepL, switch to DeepLX (self-deployed, free) or an AI channel such as DeepSeek. For Chinese-to-English translation, AI channels are usually better and cheaper.
